Tarantella
Hal Leonard Student Piano Library Showcase Solo Level 4/Early Intermediate
Series: Educational Piano Library
Composer: Jennifer Linn
The dizzying perpetual motion of the traditional Italian folk dance is captured in this vivacious and showy piano solo by Jennifer Linn. Excellent recital material, this fiery tarantella fits that sought-after category of “sounds hard, but is easy to learn” crowd pleasers. By definition, a tarantella is a folk dance of southern Italy. Like the tarantula, its name is derived from the town of Taranto. According to legend (now discredited), the dance was a cure for the tarantula's poisonous bite. It is danced by a couple to a regularly phrased tune in 6/8 time, which gradually increases in speed.
HLSPL Level 4 (Early Intermediate) piano solo. A minor; 6/8; Tempo: vivace; 48 measures; ABA form; broken triads in RH accompaniment figures, with LH melodic line that crosses over the RH with accented double notes; Reading range: full staff; Perf. time: 50 sec.
